Nikema Williams is an Atlanta state Senator and former Democratic Party of Georgia First Vice Chair who was elected Chair of the state party in January of 2019. Williams’ is one of the party’s best-known leaders, and as the presumed frontrunner, her objective during the race was to secure the overwhelming support needed not only to win, but to win with a clear mandate.
Southern Majority implemented a communications and media strategy, maintained a vote-tracking database, and organized volunteer efforts. During the final week, Southern Majority built a digital advertising promotion that put a key endorsement video from Stacey Abrams directly in front of voting state members.
On January 26, 2019, Nikema Williams was elected with 78% of the vote.
