Katie Powers is a seasoned writer and editor. Her diverse experience includes a seven-year career as a teacher in both public and private schools, writing a bi-monthly column for a local, independent print and digital publication, and serving as well as chairing the boards of multiple civic and cultural organizations in Macon-Bibb County. In 2015, Katie created a non-profit organization, “Book ‘Em,” which partners with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office in an effort to promote childhood literacy and foster positive interaction between local law enforcement officials and those they protect and serve. To date, Book ‘Em has delivered over 45,000 brand new books to children and youth in Macon-Bibb County. After successfully co-chairing Macon-Bibb Forward Together, the unique OLOST campaign for Macon-Bibb County, which passed with over 80% of the vote to pave the way for one of the largest reductions in property taxes in Georgia, Katie joined the Southern Majority Team in 2022. Her responsibilities include editing all copy produced by Southern Majority, assisting with the creation of new content for clients, and adding to the formidable brain trust of the organization.
Katie and her husband, Jeff, have two daughters, both of whom attend colleges within the University System of Georgia. She has served on the boards of Hay House, Macon Arts Alliance, Appleton Episcopal Ministries, Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church, and the advisory boards of Nutcracker of Middle Georgia and the Macon 30 Day Fund. She was also a member of Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller’s Transition Team in 2020. Katie is a fifth generation Maconite. She graduated from Central High School in 1989 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Georgia.
